It was cool to see people, but to be honest it was a bit of a let down that Thurteem seems to have fizzled. I know that people have stuff going on in their lives, but that was just my feelings on the matter.

Hopefully I’ll see people soon before I have to go back to my other home. *damn the lack of private jet*

Man I miss you guys (getting old I know, but still true).

The basic theory is that you are ‘warriors’ in a semi nomadic tribe that roams the plains. You are about to head off on a raid to steal back some cattle, and perhaps, a few in recompense. There will be 14 people sent out, including you lot. This is the basic attack unit of the tribe, known as a fist. You have all been on a few raids before, but this is your first major one.

Your tribe is predominantly human. Any non humans have been adopted into the tribe, although you might be second generation. Alternatively, you were stolen to replace someone’s child that was killed in a raid. Regardless of your origin, you are accepted based on how you aid the tribe.

With regards to history, you know that you arrived on the plains recently. No one knows how recently or how you arrived. Technology is slightly less advanced than most DnD settings, but you will have access to most normal equipment. I will veto anything that would be out of place. You start with 2700gp worth of equipment, but no actual gold pieces. If you have spare gold after buying equipment, it will be favours that the tribe will bestow upon you. All the equipment that you have is stolen from someone else, or given as a gift. The tribe does not really manufacture metal items and there are very few trees that are worth more than burning. No one knows where the items come from, but there always seems to be enough.

Hooray for a great game =) Now, volunteers for the next? I seem to remember someone offering a Song of Ice and Fire game at some point…

since it was a long weekend schpat was able to abuse the monday too which gave the con a nice relaxed atmosphere. it was a lying atmosphere that covered the fact that this was possibly the worstly organised schpatcon we’ve had yet (is worstly even a word?). but the atmosphere was there nonetheless.

there were 7 fun-filled events (since this is schpatcon 7, theme: 7 deadly sins) each labled with an appropriate sin.

day 1:

• pride: schpat’s gurps module. exemplary formating resulted in a fantastic module…
• sloth: munchkin tournament. erm… i wasn’t watching but people played cards… roo organised it.
• envy: the doomtown larp. there was chilli. lots of chilli. i ate the chilli! (the rabbit is good!)

schpat’s module went swimmingly, and i believe everyone had fun. unbeknownst to them the module had only been completed at about 01h00 that morning. a bleary-eyed me formatting and finding a cover picture…

the munchkin seemed to go well with garrick complaining about elves. *shrugs* i wasn’t paying attention… i think i was too busy trying to load my body with sugar and nicotine to stay awake.

the larp was great fun. i got to play a russian miner. it was my job to missinterperate everyone’s english and to spread rumours in broken english while not understanding anyone. there was some sort of underlying story that the other characters were involved in, but since i couldn’t understand them i was more interested in the excellent chilli and alchohol. the only problem with the larp is that it started late (because schpat and moonflake were desperately completing character sheets earlier that day) and ended at about 02h00 the next day. everyone’s costumes were fantastic. schpat looked fantastic in his barkeep getup (including bowler hat wich stayed with him for the rest of the con) and moonflake made yancke uncomfortable with her cleavage (she played the madam and looked wonderful). eventually we all went home so that we could wake up late for tomorrow.

day 2:

• lust: my tristat Dx module. 30 pages of text to confuse gm’s with.
• greed: the poker tournament. texas hold ‘em with bounty.
• the magic tourney: loosely affiliated with us… people had fun apparently… it was downstairs.

everything started late. i was only half awake and most people didn’t start arriving until after the official start time of the module. eventually we managed to round up 2 and a half teams… then we axed the half team as we couldn’t fill the last 2 spaces, and things about 3 hours late. there was plenty of leftover chilli and i ate a substantial amount… in fact i think only evo.llusion came close to my consumption. eventually the module ended and the poker began; at which point moonflake and i decided that going home and sleeping would be a fantastic plan, so we did!

day 3:

• gluttony: moonflake’s zombie (all flesh must be eaten) module. part 2 of the MZ series.
• wrath: the soul calibre III tournament (playstation 2) followed by tekken 4 beatings.

after having had a little sleep, we managed to arrive on time and things ran a little smoother. the module started barely late, and finished roughly on time. schpat bought heroscape from dibby / outer limits and dystopia, ork_khrist, schpat, moonflake, and myself all played at one point or another. it was actually pretty cool. the soul calibre III tournament was very cool with 10 people competing for the title of ultimate warrior (or something). a complete range of skills starting from complete noob and going all the way to synk. some people showed us that button mashing is still alive and kicking as a viable fighting style, but they were eventually knocked out. fun was had overall and eventually synk reigned supreme and well and truly kicked my ass in the final 5 round battle for 1st / 2nd place. i would mention who came third but i needed a cigarette to counteract the adreneline.

finally, after packing up, we all went to celebrate a successfull schpatcon (and by successfull i mean schpat broke about even, and then spent a whack of cash on heroscape) by going down to the starlight diner and stuffing ourselves with starters and burgers. their service wasn’t fantastic but their burgers were. synk ordered the yankee doodle burger and i was waiting for him to pop, but he took half of it home in a doggybag, depriving us of the fun of watching him rupture something while trying to finish it.
all in all i think everyone had fun in spite of the rushing around, the blown plugs, the lack of sleep, and general craziniess. a big “thank you” to schpat, as usual, for organising / running.

things of interest: synk likes pectin sweets (much philosophising was done over the dichotomy of pectin and gelatin fruit pastilles), feminine pads were used as a bounty in the poker tournament (wtf?), holey_crusader never remembered krakatoa once (or whatever that game is called), dibby sold loads of comics to moonflake (but refused to let me steal his anime figurines), and schpat only had to return the rented bowler hat on tuesday.

that’s about all i can remember at the moment with my sleep deprived brain. i’m sure people can add their comments / do their own posts.

There are two reasons for this: reason one, i’m a huge All Flesh fan, and Zenstar has a lot of the books already so I’m just adding to the collection; reason two, i’m writing an All Flesh module for SchpatCon and I need stats for Mayan Zombies.

The book contains just over 100 pages of different zombie archtypes from all over the world, including south america, which is exactly what I was looking for. Last module my zombies were WWII Nazis (Mein Zombies), next module they’re going to be from asia (Chow Mein Zombies). I believe Zenstar already owns Enter the Zombie so i don’t think that’s going to be an issue.

Mmmmm…source-booky goodness. Now I just need to think of a plot…

dragonfire this year was short for me… i saw an hour on saturday morning… bugged adeeb, then took moonflake through to the airport before returning with my laptop and some code that i’d neglected to finish and needed to be done by monday.

of course this meant that i did hardly any coding and spent large amounts of time bugging adeeb. once the rest of thurteem had finished playing we got stuck in with some good old poker. dealer’s choice saw many, many, many silly games but with a R1 buyin no-one minded and fun was had by all. (thanks for bringing cards and chips schpat).

we finished at about 3 am and babyacid ended up spending the night in the spare room (he needed to fetch adeeb that morning and northern suburbs are so far away) while i coded the code! at 4:30 am i was having a celebratory cigarette and cup of coffee before turning in. sometime around 07:00 a blurry greyscale image woke me up asking to be let out. with babyacid gone i caught a couple more hours sleep before returning to dragonfire where i proceeded to bug adeeb.

2 games. game 1: hostage drama thing… not terrible, but too much arguing and waiting and then a sudden rush of action that saw 2 characters dead and the other 2 (myself included here) wondering what happened and why we just spent 3 hours shouting at each other (in character and out… it was a little frustrating). i got stuck playing the asshole character who hates everyone. it said so on the character sheet… ok. i didn’t hate schpat’s character specifically… i just hated the fact that he/she was fbi and trying to steal my thunder. schpat should have played up his role as a kinda denis/denise cross-dressing fbi agent ala david duchoveny in twin peaks… but he didn’t at least there were lots of (real life) doughnuts to be had (we were playing cops after all).
break between games: bug adeeb…

game 2: we had mike (mike, mike, mike, mike…) dm for us. we had a real fun game with us slowly turning into the riders of the apocolypse (i was death ) and traveling through the endtimes (although i must say… a plague of frogs is really lame when you’re riding an SUV. *splatsplatsplatsplatsplat-yawn-splatsplatsplat*). schpat won best player for his depiction of a female rainman / coder / famine. wd

bugged adeeb before leaving the venue and heading out…

the prizegiving was held in the usual place (the one ring) and was quite fun. schpat and i won a game of fuzzball and merryment was had by all. holeycrusader, yancke, evollusion, schpat, orkkhrist, roo, and myself ended up sitting in a corner talking about all the wacky adventures we’ve endured (ie: all the injuries we’ve sustained / caused as kids). to be more accurate: most of us were talking while evollusion cringed and kept trying to change the subject (i barely felt the pick-ax hit evollusion… it wasn’t that bad really).

schpat and i left around midnight… i got some sleep.

on a side note: the dragonfire mugs were pretty cool. i got one for moonflake (and for some coffee that i needed on sunday morning). the new CLAWs coat of arms looks pretty cool.

so that’s my report… someone else can fill in the gaping holes of missing information.
